Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim is to reinforce the bearing of the students in the melodic elements of European music culture and expand theory knowledge regarding melodic structure of various music styles and genres.

Mode of study:

Most frequent analyses of master scores. Exercises in one's own creative attempts.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Regular (minimum 75%) participation in instruction and active participation in discussions. Development and presentation of a melody structural analysis paper. Study of assigned literature.

Course contents:

Lecture and class are focused on basic issues of melody from the viewpoint of composition, conducting, music theory and music direction students' knowledge requirements. Particular attention is paid to the relationship of the so called paradigmatic and syntagmatic in the melodic form and organization system relationship to tone height.
