Purpose and aim of the course which relies upon the on-line version of the Professorial thesis of the same name. It explains in particular the basic concepts of these areas:
1/ Management, Arts management and music management
2/ Where and how music management functions. Structure of music culture
3/ Legal-economic requirements in music functions
4/ Basic processes and institutions of music culture/operations from a management perspective
5/ Music and the media
6/ The music industry, culture industry
As with every other classical introduction to a study,the Introduction to Music Management is not an exhaustive encyclopedia of the study. There is broad theory literature in general management for this. The writings cover music in the broades of terms and work in all areas and disciplines which music management is dependent upon either in a narrow or broad sense. The rich vocabulary of production, including modern internet encyclopedias such as Wikipeida and others are available. Individual chapters attempt, in their content and division, to demonstrate the structure of the profession, its most important parts and basic function principles.
The first chapter begins with a definition of general management through arts and culture management to music managment. The second chapter marks the place of music management in the state, private and social sectors. The third chapter covers the history of copyright, music publishing establishments and copyright protection organizations. The fourth chapter analyzes important music institutions and organizations such as opera houses, symphonic orchestras, festivals and agencies. The fifth and sixth chapters describe the relationship of music and the media, music industry and various ties between music and the state.
For practical reasons and considering the priority of the electronic version, the textbook contains classical notation devices and citations. Data about cited works and authors are placed in brackets like classical literature or periodical works, as well as citations from the internet (as reference). This work requires a number of various exact citations taken particularly from English writings. English, and in some cases German, citations have been left in the original. In a number of examples there is no precise Czech equivalent, particularly in the area of the media. A translation may unnecessarily deform the significance of the text. As well, this type of professional work considers the language skills of the students (most likely future managers!) as given. The list of reference works at the end of the work selective in nature and is limited to only a limited range of works which were considered, considering the work and the field itself, as key. Other works, articles or writings are presented only along with individual citations.
