Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Increasing piano skill

Mode of study:

Individual instruction linked to verifying students' individual study. The instructor evaluates the study, gives exams and credit.

Course contents:

Piano Practice is part of the study for Conducting and Composition studies in the eighth semester; for Voice and Opera Direction in the sixth semester.

Conducting:

Requirements are placed on the student in the selection of literature, primarily towards playing piano excerpts, scores and finally, playing from the page and collaborating with HAMU Opera Studies.

Composition:

Significant technical requirements are placed on the student considering the skill in presenting one's own work, playing from the page and score reading.

Voice and Opera Direction:

The course content is adapted to the beginning technical potential of the student. The student is to focus their literature selection for their own voice or directing practice.

Recommended or required reading:

LIterature selection according to the technical maturity of the students and focused on Conducting, Composition, Vocal, and Opera Directing studies.

The Romance and 20th century.focused literature selection for symphonic and opera practice. (ex: piano excerpts of operas by V. Blodek , B. Smetana, A. Dvořák, G. Verdi, G. Puccini, R. Wagner, L. Janáček and others.

Composition:

Continuing instruction in technique with a focus on playing from the page.

The Romance and 20th century.focused literature focused according to the technical skills of the student. (Ex:F. Schubert, R. Schumann, F. Chopin, B. Martinů , L. Janáček D. Shostakovich, S. Prokofiev and others.)

Voice and Opera Direction studies:

Gradual expansion of technique and recital literature with focus on easier song accompaniment.

Opera direction: effort to guide students to adroit reading and playing simple melodramas.

Romance and 20.century compositions focused selection for opera literature practice for students to be able with piano skills to use it for their voice studies, for song and opera study.

Opera Direction: emphasis on a detailed bearing in piano excerpts of operas and other music-drama works.
