- Name of lecturer(s):
- Zdeněk OTČENÁŠEK
- Learning outcomes of the course unit:
-
This course broadens basic knowledge in the perception of a music signal. Students are acquainted with the psycho-acoustic linked to the concept of sound, psycho-acoustic dimensions, their physiological traverses and the relationships among subjective perception properties of sound and objective properties of sound signals.
- Mode of study:
-
1 hour per week.
- Prerequisites and co-requisites:
-
Basic knowledge of physiologic and music acoustics.
- Recommended optional programme components:
-
none
- Course contents:
-
Acoustics: sound, mass point oscillation, sound spread, acoustic field
Acoustic line from sound source to hearing perception, sounce of music sound and sound signal
Objective properties of sound signals: Time course, incidential ,continual, periodic signal, transient signal, signal analysis in time domain (periodicity, correlation)
Sound time development: Transient events, post-oscillation state, modular and quasi-periodic signals, Composition of comprehensive signals, signal analysis (band filters, FFT, DFT, wavelettes), anti-aliasing, spectra time development, weighting, average spectra, static and dynamic signal concept (tone, noise).
Subjective properties of sound signals: the listening process and hearing perception, subjective dimensions
Listening principles: internal ear, neurogram, music sound distinguising mechanism, non-linear distortion in listening
Neurogram: perception of a simple tone, critical band width, perception of two simple tones, echo, first order events, aural and combination tones
Second order events, reverb of out-of-tune consonance, perception of fundamental tone, residual tone
Psycho-acoustics: sound hearing, hearing tests, presentation of sound stimuli, psycho-acoustic measurement
Sound assessment: Verbal and non-verbal methods, assessor compliance, objectivization of results
Basic psyco-acoustic dimensions (volume, pitch, duration, color), sound quality, relations of objective and subjective dimensions.
