- types of percussion instruments - according to material, country of origin, etc...
- focus on the most common and commonly used percussion instrument and a detailed look at their development
- selection of the most significant compositions in which those instruments are used - in an orchestra, chamber ensemble and solo.
- survey of the composers writing for percussion (solo, chamber and symphonic works)
- a good orientation in the style periods and what instruments were commonly used
- a broad orientation in music forms and an ability to briefly analyze compositions
