Learning outcomes of the course unit:

1)Familiarization with historical and contemporary forms of dramaturgical work.

2)Detailed reading of a dramatic text.

3)Analysis of a dramatic text and modeling of the ideal production.

4)Interpretation of the text.

5)Creation of a dramaturgical/direction conception.

Mode of study:

Group readings and analyses of texts, moderated discussions, collaborations in dramaturgy in original exercises.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

1. Good bearing in Czech and world drama literature.

2. Knowldedge of fundamental theatrology texts.

3. Ability to review and analyse

4. Creativity.

Course contents:

This bachelor's level course is for both Dramaturgy and Directing students and is focused theory and practice. Its essence lies in the development of skills in the discovery, reading and analysis of a drama text and modelling an ideal staging. In the futher phase, it is to interpret and accent its current topic and develop the dramaturgic-directing concept. Students will learn to alter texts in order to correspond to the dramaturgic-directing concept and at the same time respect the artistic style of the author. To become the co-writer of the staging in the whole structure and particular system. To understand dramaturgy not only as a practical service to a single staging but as a creative discipline, which in assisting the dramaturgical plan influences the investigation and forming a theatre's artistic program.

class participation

completion of part of the creative exercises

summary exam creative project

During the semester independent reading, participation in class discussions, timely completion of part of the creative task, and minimum of 70% attendance is required. The overall grading is comprised of 30% for class participation, 30% for completion of the part of the creative task and 40% for the summary exam creative project.

Conditions for successfull completion of the course: class participation, completion and presentation of parts of the creative tasks, execution of the summary creative project.
