Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim is the ability to „see reality better“ and be able to analyze the diversity of its forms, shapes, lines, mass, color and lighting properties, the mutual relationships of objects and subsequent technique and potential of graphic expression.

The most important questions are in spatial perception and an understanding of reality, compositional relationships of objects and mass, composition nature issues and knowledge of the psychological aspects of color.

Mode of study:

In painting a still life, students are guided to an understanding of its element as matter, form and materially autonomous actors in a scene. In order to create these things as a living, rich and finally, an organic whole, each element must have its own unmistakeable character. The this diversity may create a unit which has the expressive power of a picture of the world of „a fixed for eternity“ - still life.

Painting a nude is not to be understood merely as a study of the human anatomy, but an examination of the mutual relationship of body proportions, issues of light, color and matter but as well expression of an elementary position - the human body in the space of the world.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Ability to artistically complete the assignments according to study intentions.

Recommended optional programme components:

A consutation type of study begins in the third year with various assignments - interior, exterior, figure composition - situation, space, mass, light.

Studio instruction along with one's drawing and painting according to a model. The course includes a theory presentation of generally valid creative principles and aesthetic connections. Part of the instruction process are occassional visits to exhibits with written personal reviews. An important aspect is discussions about current issues of contemporary art with a focus on investigating inclinations and their entangled paths.
