- Learning outcomes of the course unit:

1. To introduce issues of theatre theory in its breadth and as well, instruct the elementary theatre studies concepts used in Czech theatre research. This, of course, will introduce the contexts of the contemporary development of general arts theory and aesthetics, and in context of assorted method schools and theatre research trends abroad.
2. To introduce, in detail the structural - semiotic view of theatre, predominantly in Czech theatre theory, of course also, its limits and disadvantages.
3. To cultivate student ability to orient oneself at a high level in the issues of theatre theory, generally and from the perspective of individual types of theatre, or other recently developing types of theatre or performance events.

1. Theatre theory focused on the creation of a theatre piece
2. Basic terminology, domestic and abroad
3. Theatre semiotics
4. Concept of structure and composition
5. Structural advantanges and disadvantages of a semiotic approach to a theatre piece
6. Issues in theatre interpretation.
Ontological principles in theatre arts
The theatre and its particular media aspects. The theatre as not only a type of art. Theatre v. film v. photography; Image cult (from memsis to simulacra, from painting to performance); H-T Lehmann and post-drama theatre. Ontological principles in theatre arts. Aesthetics of performativity; comparison of start and finish in the thought of E. Fischer-Lichte and J. Etlik and demarcation of basic intersections and discrepancies.
J. Etlik and Theatre as experience, Section 2. E. Fischer-Lichte and aesthetics of performativity, outlined in older studies with J. Roselt. H-T Lehmann and his post-drama theatre based on to date knowledge in examples of Czech and world productions (recordings and discussions on viewed performances).

Grades and credit are awarded based on a minimum of 80% attendance at lectures which is a condition for sitting the exam. The grading takes place at the end of the lecture series as a verbal or possibly written exam.
