Learning outcomes of the course unit:

1. To improve expression skills verbally and in writing.

2. Increase ability to understand a written text with an emphasis on trade writings.

3. Introduce the basic attributes of discussions and debates, moderated discussions (including panels), proper discussion moderation (in written and verbal forms).

4. To improve ability to produce a professional writing and its oral presentation in public.

Mode of study:

text readings and analyses, text critiques (analysis), professional writings, public presentations, passive and active participation in public discussion forums.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

1. Knowledge of the Czech language at the pre-college level.

2. Completion of „Language Culture I“, concluded with credit.

Recommended optional programme components:

Critcal reading and writing beyond the scope of the study plan, publishing activity, participation in public discussion forums.

Course contents:

1. Discussions and debates in theory and practice (oral and written forms), moderated panel discussions.

2. Critiques (analysis) of industry writings

3. Producing an industry writing.

4. Public presentation of a professional contribution

Credit is awarded based on:

class participation

writting of assigned papers

completion of the years paper and its presentation in the course.

During the course text investigations (according to assignment) and their critical readings (analysis) and class participation are required.

Conditions for successful completion of the course: class participation, completion of the year's paper and its defense in the course.
