Learning outcomes of the course unit:

1) Student acquires necessary knowledge in the area of current tendencies in Czech and world theatre, performing arts and culture in general.

2) Student acquires the skill to analyse the environment of live arts in the Czech Republic and abroad and applies the knowledge in their production practice.

3) Student is prepared to perform the duties of a producer (or director of an arts organization or festival), that is, a person responsible for concept preparations of the content and program arrangement of the event, and co-responsible for the assembly of the arts team, staffing and artistic results of the project.

Mode of study:

A series of 4-5 combined classes in which a group of instructors (Prokop, Svobodová, Kubišta, Václavová) and DAMU Production Dept. master's studies students with the participation of a guest take part in the preparations and creation.

No knowledge requirements.

Recommended optional programme components:

No other education requirements.

Course contents:

Instruction is through the acquisition of knowledge and experience through personal encounters with figures who may serve as role models and inspire them in their future work. Student participation is required.

Each class is devoted to one or more producer figures who are the class guest. Aside from a presentation by the guest, part of the class is examples of the guest's work, archive materials, video and audio recordings, photos, etc. Emphasis is placed on a wide spectrum of artistic work and a presentation of diverse approaches of how to create in the artistic process.

Study aims:

1. Acquaint students with the most important contemporary Czech production figures and those in culture management who have managed to significantly influence the development and understanding of culture project management in the Czech Republic.

2. To present selected contemporary foreign figures of culture management.

3. Broaden an awareness of the irreplaceable role of the producer for the creation and existence of an art project.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

Instruction is through blended learning, combining discussion, introduction (instruction) and assignments in which the students independently complete assignments (course paper) on a selected or assigned topic.

Assessment methods and criteria:

75% attendance is required in classes as well as participation in discussions. The course is concluded with an exam in the form of a 10 minute presentation on an assigned topic. The overall grade is comprised of 50% for class participation and 50% for the exam/public presentation.
