The student, through translation work is acquainted with the issues and pitfalls of a professional translation. They learn the differences between the simple reading/understanding of a foreign language text and its translation to a target language. They handle issues of terminology shifts between individual language and seemingly established professional concepts. Finally, Students learn to formulate an abstract of their own professional text or summarize an existing foreign language text in English.

Group work on a translation. Comparison of versions and variations. Comparison in proposals of existing Czech and translated terminology.

Minimum B1 level foreign language knowledge.

- Course contents:

This course is focused on the translation of a professional (theory, history, essay) writing, particularly on terminology issues in translating from the original language to the target language. The content is group work on the translation of several excerpts from various types of professional writings (essays, dictionary entries, etc).
