Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The goal of the course is the conscious development (cultivation) of stage feel of directors, dramaturges, stage designers, theoreticians and critics with respect to discovering the (dramatic) possibilities of a text on the basis of a chosen scene/situation played out in time and space (i.e. staged interpretation) with the participation of individual (basic) components of stage expression and their representatives in mutual dialogue.

Mode of study:

A course combining lighting with a course providing directing, dramaturgy, set-design and theory and critique students with a introduction to the fundamentals of depiction „from inside“: aiming inductively to that concept in the second semester. to assisting in executing a set--design from a prepared text whose producers are the students themselves.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Creative participation in the production of at least one excerpt from a chosen text, the playing out of which on stage amounts to the development of its dramatic possibilities („internal theme“).

Recommended optional programme components:

Continuous monitoring of theatre novelty, progressive productions and films and exceptional acting performances.

Course contents:

The 2nd semester proceeds from the selection of a scene/situation from finished (classical and contemporary) texts to their specific interpretation (i.e. interpretation leading to the discovery of their staging/dramatic possibilities with definite actors in a definite directing/stage design environment) and their playing out in time and space. This playing out again involves the development of stage feel of students including, on the other hand, dramatic feel. It is this gradually realized connection (staged vs. dramatic) that allows conceiving the scene/situation in question not only with regard to its visual and „internally tangible“ aspects, but also in the combination of those sensorically based levels with the level of potential meaning (internal theme). East student contributes to the completion of the selected task with regard to their chosen specialization, leading in the case of directing, stage design and dramaturgy, in which participating theoreticians are also involved, to the creating of a staged scene relating to a (general) „opinion“ controllable by viewing from the outside. This view from the outside is, however, supplemented by a view from within, brought to life to an appropriate degree by empathy and also developed by direct participation in acting (this, of course, is not compulsory). Any exceeding of the narrowly defined boudaries given by specialized roles attained naturally during mutual dialogue on the whole contributes to the further development of the feeling for teamwork, not only with respect to the specialization in question, but also for individual creative possibilities and naturally applied authority.
