Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Through examples and analysis of the dramaturgical strangeness of Film Noir we research the assertion that in other genresunacceptable deficiencies in construction are characteristic advantages for Film Noir.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Prior to class, it is necessary to watch at lease one Film Noir, at best a classic such as The Maltese Falcon (dir. John Huston, 1941), The Big Sleep (dir. Howard Hawks, 1946), The Asphalt Jungle (dir. John Huston, 1950), The Killing (dir. Stanley Kubrick, 1956), and others.

Course contents:

Unclarity, that unsaid, chaos - Film Noir as a pro-chaotic genre growing out of the centuries old tradition of the dance of the dead.
