Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim, taking place an elementary school, is to inspire students to write a short critical text at a level acceptable to professional press. A requirement is student mutual collaboration - and close individual contact of the instructor to the student in the finalization process and review of the resulting essay. See course content.

Mode of study:

Text presentation which may be - optimally - published in a trade periodical. The topic (primarily in film, television television, photography new medidal and etc) They will be selected such to not only be contemporary and in some cases controversial.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Active interest in modern art and ability to reflect upon it critically. Suitable, particularly, for screenwriters and documentarists.

Course contents:

Topics (primarily from the area of film, television, photography, new media and the like) will be selected so that they are not only current but sometimes controversial. Along with one or two papers (3 pages) for all students in which they select a topic pertinent to their specialization or immediate interests. Also students wll present a co-written paper in which the content and form of the work will be evaluated. The selected topic will undergo critical group discussions to which the author should respond; the instructor will also express ideas. Some subject matter can be supplemented with invited guests (creators or experts), screenings, group visits to exhibitions, etc. If the resulting essays are at the appropriate level they will be published in profession publications and the author will be compensated.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

Each student receives an assignement to complete one or two three-page papers on a topic of their choice related to their specialization or immediate interests. Other students may present a short talk in which not only the content but also the form of the submitted work is evalulated. The selected topic undergoes a group critique in which the writer should react to the discussion. The instructor will also contribute.
