- Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with forms of projection and their changes through history which the basis of the presentation of a film piece. Students are acquainted with manipulation of various types of film projectors in theory and in practice. Part of the course will be visits to professional projection workplaces - FAMU Screening Room, Bio Oko, Cinema Svetozor, IMAX Flora. Visits to live multi-screen presentations.

- Course contents:

Aside from a historic excursion into the history of projection and information on contemporary possibilities in projection equipment. This covers primarily the preparation of filmmakers in communications with projectionists who are to present completed works in the best manner - in summary presentations, at festivals and classical cinemass and outside.
Student assignment - to bring to the module their own film on any media and adjust it as best they can for proper projection

- classical 35mm cinema technique and distribution - film track x DCP (development, past, present, production of film copies)
- cinema - operation, program creation and dramaturgy, accounting, challenge, multiplex v. classical cinema, village v. city (which people go to the cinema?)
- alternative distribution (opera, DVD, live broadcast), festivals
- the projectionist profession - basic information about projection courses
- projection of instructional films - „Caring for Film Copies“, „Basic“ and „Large White Surfaces“

9:30-12:00, Bio OKO - excursion to a cinema with projectionist guide commentary, presentation and examples of the differences of classical 35mm, DCP, Digital projection - what requirements should there be for cinema projection, how to prepare the image, how to prepare the sound and how to create DCP (data flow, frame rate, color, sound channels) - Martin Hanzal and Kateřina Bubeníčková

14:30 - 16:00 Cinema IMAX at Palace Flora - presentation of various multiplex equipment and IMAX, loading examples - Petr Buňata
16:30 - 18:00 Basement of the Holesovice cafe Liberal - presentation of a poly screen projection on a portable 35mm projector and 8mm projector by Martin Ježek - „What is the Weather Doing?“ - a real portable poly-screen and its potential in the creation of live cinema as a finished piece.
