Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course aim is to introduce students to the changes in editing from the beginnings of cinema to the advent of sound.

Mode of study:

Discussions, analyses of media recording samples, Analyses of texts.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Awareness of the significance of editing theory knowledge for one's own creating.

Recommended optional programme components:

No elective requirements necessary.

Course contents:

The course deals with the analysis of the changing theory of editing, from the origins of cinemato to the introduction of sound. In addition to the basics of Griffithian narrative composition, the lectures concentrate on presenting a detailed introduction to the work and theoretical ideas of the Russian montagists.
