Course contents:

1) The theoretical part of the workshop will be focused on the development and trends in current fashion and portrait photography, and will introduce the most important personalities in current fashion and portrait production. An important part of the seminars will be a discussion over the sociological context of fashion and the influence of this phenomenon on photography. Currently, photography is projected into a wide spectrum of social influences, the intersection points of which make up our collective perception. More and more often we are encountering effective communication strategies in which an idea and its message are combined with entertainment. However, entertainment is not only the direct goal but primarily an effective medium, which makes the content of the information more easily digestible, it polarizes it and promotes it.

One of the main topics of the Fashion and Portrait in Current Photography seminars will be the reflexion of fashion and portrait photography in the context of current production and of shifting the boundaries of traditional commercial photography.

In this subject the students will be introduced to front world fashion and portrait photography in cult and traditional media, and to the work of world renowned art directors (ID, Face, Dazed, Big, Benetton, Ogylvy, Leo Burned). Concurrently, there will be practical work in the form of staged photography.

2) Practical part. The seminar will be split into two cycles.

A) Winter semester ? two-week assignments with individual topics

B) Summer semester ? a magazine

Consultations and reviews of individual works will take place during the collective seminars.

The result of the summer semester project will be a published concept of the magazine

/cooperation with the newspaper Lidové noviny, and the magazine Espirit/
