This workshop will, in the first phase, be devoted to joining text and (the moving) image. In meetings, in brief case studies, we will attempt to , in isolation, investigate the various forms of this phenomenon, in its most traditional application (inter-titles in silent film, beginning and closing credits, subtitles).
The following and more important part is an extensive presentation of various examples intentional and un-intentional breaking or pushing limits of the film-text genre (amateur titles, mistakes, coincidental change in meaning in conceptual videos, graphic schemes and „text outside the image“ in contemporary cinema and serial production...).
The following assignments will be dependent on the selected topic and disposition of the students and my reach as far as from the script or storyboard to a short-film form.
The second phase of the workshop will cover, to a certain extent, the feedback process, the conversation of (the moving) image in text. This may be a short synopsis of a short piece arising from a completed film. To what certain extent it is possible to compare film editing, separated from the material, with the work of a graphic designer?
Nor here is the assignment so rigidly limited in the selection of media. It starts only from an idea of interpretation or abstraction of an already existing work with a certain material preference or graphic form of the final result.
