Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Předmět fotografie a kniha je zaměřen na tvorbu knižního objektu.

Zahrnuje last především oblast autorské knihy.

Náplní předmětu je práce na knižním projektu, který je součástí závěrečné magisterské zkoušky.

Důraz je kladen na obsahovou a formální jednotu výsledného díla.

Course contents:

Course description:

This course is devoted to the book as a bearer of information and artistic object.

Provides basics of book graphics.

This includes editorial practice, computer formatting in InDesign and pre-printing preparations of the book. Bringing in polygraphic minimums necessary for reproduction technology selected and communication with the printers, basics of classical and alternative bookbinding. The course is also devoted to graphics techniques which are used with photographic images.

The practical section is lead in two directions: the creation of the so-called „creator's book,“ that is and artistic artefact either in the form of a classic book or an object which crosses over the borders of that form. The basic source is one's own photography and own or borrowed text.

The alternative direction is the creation of an advertisement catalog. Here, the emphasis is place on the simultaneous effect of the photographic and typographic components. Part of the work is aso the polygraphic sketch treatment.

In both cases an emphasis is place on the innovative approach to creation in the conception of a book.

Tasks: (exercise 3P5)

Winter Semester:

1/ Mock-up of a presentational catalogue of one's own photography, format 210x420, 4 pages.

Requirement for sketch:

Proof print on a inkjet printer, format 1:1, two-sided mock-up.

Summer Semester:

„Creator's Book.“ 12 pages + cover, format minumu 15x15cm, or advertisement catalog format minimum 210x200mm, 12 pages + cover

Photography, text and other graphic elements are considered equal artistic components.

Obligatory establishment of book topic by the end of October in the form of a brief written explication of the topic selection and manner of development.

Requirement for sketch:

1/ Printed sketch understood as the final authorized status, Binder processed printing of the book.

2/ Mock-up. Proofs on inkjet printer. Developed document enabling polygraphics processing.

During the course are consultations and treatments of the photo publication choices of the student in collaboration with the lead instructor of the photo part.
