Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Introduction to the activities of an exhibition and artistic collections curator, individual institutions (museum, galleries, art halls) and photo festivals, types of exhibition catalogues, and exhibition organizational preparations. The course will methodologically prepare students for writing the master's thesis, portforlio preparations, etc.

Students will be guided to independent consideration and knowledge, critical approaches to art and the surrounding world, accepting responsibility for one's work. Various approaches in the perception of art from the viewpoint of the artist, performer and the public will be displayed.

Mode of study:

Readings of selected theory writings and their interpretation, reports, group discussions on presented topics.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

A basic bearing in the history of art in the second half of the 20th century, contemporary art and photography theory, ability to read english texts.

Course contents:

The question „What is Documentarianism?“ has already destroyed an entire generation of theoreticians. (Hito Steyerl). The course aim is not to definitively answer that question but to investigate various possible answers and their sources and to discuss them. As a group we will consider the potential of documentary photography based on readings of theory topics and reports on selected artists who have defined the borders with their work.
