The aim of the modules is to acquaint students with the lesser known works of Norman McLaren.

Course contents:

Norman McLaren is one of the most progressive creators in animated film of the 20th century. In Canada he founded the animation studio of the National Film Board of Canada. He became a Canadian citizen in 1952. It is nearly forgotten that he is orginally Scottish. The lecture of Nichol Dobson of Ediburgh College of Art covers the relationship of McLaren with the documentary maker John Grierson and other figures that he encountered during his career. During the lecture a number of McLaren's films will be shown.
