Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim of the course is an acquaintance with the basic production and post-production tools of audio-visual creations.

1. Collection format, digital post-production schematic

Introduction to audio-visual media issues, analog and digital signal, types of recording, manipulation with media, formats and compression (Apple Compressor, Adobe Media, Encoder)

Exercise: authoring media, DVD/BlueRay, working with files.

2. Open-source software

Basic overview of open-source strategy and software

3. Intermedia institute (FAMU/FEL ČVUT)

Work and safety basics in IMM, Basic equipment in IIM.

Basic lighting techniques and technology

4. Stereo recording and sound assembly

Software: Nuendo

5. Photoshop - (2 weeks), 4+6 hours. -Martin Blažíček, December

Graphic composition (Photoshop). Layers, objects, bitmaps and vectors, working with color

Exercise: Graphic composition.

Mode of study:

General explication followed by work at the computer based on materials and examples.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

None. Recommended for all students. Required in the 1st year.

Linked to Audiovisual Technology 2 in the Summer semester.

Course contents:

Grading is awarded based on independently completed homework assignments related to the material coveris in the semester (ex: web pages, DVD, complex projects in Photoshop, etc.)

Note:

The creation of this course is a reaction to long-term experience with student limits in or significant disproportional knowledge of the basic use and context of audio-visual technology. It is intended primarily for 1st year students in Audio-visual studies. Other students are welcomed if space allows.

Instruction is focused on an understanding of the relationships of and entry-level skills in working with HW and SW in developing image and sound. There are a number of examples for this topic on the internet. For instruction we have selected the most appropriate considering the needs of our students.
