Course contents:

What impact had argentinian crisis in the begining of milenium to the tranformation of cultural and social life? What place has experimental cinema in contemporary artistical life of Buenos Aires? Nowadays, the phenomena of expereimental cinema in Buenos Aires exists even under strong limitation (complicated import import law, absence of institutional support, closing film labs etc) But the filmartists created the strong scene (monthly screening, festival of experimental films in La Plata), have regular workshops to share their knowledge which helps to the growing of the scene and make idiosyncratic ouvres which gets attention of festivals from Rotterdam, Oberhausen, Ann Arbor etc. Artists in person will talk about their experience and about history of experimental cinema in Argentina.

Pablo Mazzolo

was born in Buenos Aires in 1976. He studied Image and Sound Design at University of Buenos Aires. He has made several short films exploring different celluloid formats and creating special devices to make images. His films have participated in festivals like Rotterdam film festival (Netherlands), New York Film Festival: Views from the Avant Garde, Hamburg Kurzfilmfestival (Germany), BAFICI (Buenos Aires), London film festival, Media City Film Festival (Canada), VIDEOEX (Switzerland), among others. He was also invited to attend in various film performances in museums like MOCANOMI, MAMBA, MALBA. In the year 2011 his feature film script AM1019 has participated in the Oaxaca Screenwriter Lab (Sundance-Toscano). His film Oaxaca Tohoku won the prize of Metropolitan Fund of Ars. In the year 2013 Conjectures, won the 1st prize in Media City Film Festival (Windsor, Canada).

He is interested in the onthological relationship between images and people. He is currently running workshops about visual perception and creation of images, for mentally disabled and for psychiatric boarders. He is one of the founders of A.R.C.A. (Regional Archive for Amateur Cinema) dedicated to the preservation of amateur films and home movies.

Azucena Losana

Born and raised in Mexico City, 1977. Based in Buenos Aires. She works with video, found footage, handmade and expanded cinema. She collaborated with Trinchera Ensamble and Luz y Fuerza in Mexico City. SheI has joined the experimental film workshop of Claudio Caldini, the Lost and Found workshop of Abigail Child, among others. On 2009 received a prize for Art and New Media from the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires for the video „Loco“. For the last 4 years runs a workshop building analogic projectors called TAPP and a cinema for experimental films in Buenos Aires called „CINEMA CINICO“. Her films have been shown in the Experimental Section of the International Mar del Plata Film Festival in Argentina, among other Festivals in Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Cuba, Peru, Austria, Spain and the UK.

Benjamín Ellenberger

was born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1983 and since last 6 years is based in Buenos Aires. He's audiovisual artist. His interest in a music field gave him an impulse to create a visual works in real time. In Buenos Aires he participated in workshops of experimental and documentary films. He was awarded for his short experimental films (1st prize Ojo de Piedra in 8th edition of Tandil Cortos, Best Experimental film in 18th Latinamerican festival of Video and Audiovisual art in Rosario, Special mention in 7th International Festival of Independent Films in Mar del Plata)
