Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Adoption of basic technical knowledge in working with laser projectors, such as Kvant and the basic of aesthetic approaches to working with laser lights in the arts.

Course contents:

Modern laser projectors are tools mostly used in showbiz, advertisement and spectacle in the field of theater, stage design, or for big scale of outdoor events. However, in terms of laser light this medium has a relatively long history in art. How to use the laser beam to work with texts, images, space, and sounds in audiovisual environment?

Lecturers David Vrbík and Jakub Hybler introduce you the technnology of laser beam projection, with the security measures and options suitable in the field of videomapping, stagedesign experiments and as instrument in musical performances. Used are two devices of the Kvant company.

David Vrblik has been a sound designer at the Estates Theatre and has worked long-term collaborations on SPAM projects.

Jakub Hybler, Ing. completed communications techniques at the Industrial High School (radio technology, audio video), ČVUT FA Electronics (radio technology, computer technology), CZU PEF INFORMATIKA (Systems Engineering and network technologies). Since 2008 he has taken part in the Lighting Design Institute activities as an instructor, technician and project sponsor. He has been active at the Intermedia Institute (FEL ČVUT), which is a shared space with theatre people, filmmakers, architects and SW technologists. In theatre he has devoted time to HandaGote research and development, collaborated with a number of other groups and projects (Afred ve dvoře, Divadlo Continuo, Krepsko, LightLab, MamaPapa, PQ). He has taken part in a number of site-specific projects in non-traditional spaces and locations.
