Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The lecture aims, divided into two semester blocks, are to acquaint students with the development of the broadly defined fine arts from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. The presentation will not be limited to merely a description or comparison of individual artists or artistics currents but will focus on a wider social-historical context in the development of modern art including relations to related artistic disciplines. Individual topics, covered chronologically, present the social changes of the audience and artists, marking the relationships between technological development and artistic media and focuses on the contemporary arts scene in the globalized world. Attention will paid to modernism theor and possible methodological approaches to the culture of the 20th century. Independent blocks will be dedicated to important figures in art of the last 100 years but also topics in world mass culture of which the cultural production dynamics of our civilization will be explained.

Mode of study:

Lecture and presentation of image material, moderated discussion.
