Learning outcomes of the course unit:

At the end of this course the student will comprehend the theory issue processes in transferring a type of work of literature (epic) to another (drama). The student will be able to understand the literary-historical and theatrical-historical context of this and its changes through which it underwent during the 20th century.

Mode of study:

3-4 meetings (approx: 5 instruction units) of extended classes. Dates are determined based on agreement with the students. This will be on Fridays.

A knowledge of the selected samples in fiction is required (their reading is require at least by the introductory lecture):

Course contents:

The aim of this seminar series is to improve the reading skills and analyze dramatic texts (thematic and structural analysis of drama, generic classification etc.) and to interpret them. The assessment of the course will be based on seminar presentations.

1. Epic - lyrical - dramatic principle.

2. Problems of dramatization, considered as a specific type of metatext as well as one of the subtypes of the dramatic genre.

3. Historical continuitys of dramatization.

4. Pavel Kohout, Milan Uhde, Milan Kundera, Ludvík Kundera, František Pavlíček.
