Learning outcomes of the course unit:

A series of lectures presenting the current form of the American film industry focusing on Los Angeles and New York. Lecture will be in the form of „master classes“ and the work of independent producers, film agents will be presented in detail, as well as, film PR for Oscars and film studios.

Mode of study:

Lectures, video-conferences with guests, discussion.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Good knowledge of the English language

Course contents:

Our videoconferencing classes will introduce a current image of American film industry with focus on Los Angeles and New York. Our master classes will show details of following jobs: independent producer, the agent, the PR agency in the Oscars area and the Golden Globe, managing of film studio, studio vice-president etc.

We invite guests which are active in the film industry and who are willing to share their experiences and news from the branch of their job. In the middle of the semester a couple of students will introduce one of the following companies:

Every student must prepare at least five questions for our guests and put them into a shared document. The link will be sent to every student in advance. We will send these questions to our guest a week before every class.

Please be aware that according to our guests, who are fully employed it is really important to send these questions in advance. Presence on every class is mandatory.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Attendance at all lectures is required.

At the midpoint of the semester two students prepare a presentation of one study of the following: Weinstein Company, Relativity Media, Millennium Films, FilmNation Entertainment, Voltage Pictures.

Aside from the aforementioned presentation each student must prepare one week prior to the lecture at least 5 questions for the given guest. These questions will be sent in advance to the lecturer
