Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Production Team Studies (PTS) students will examine, produce and possibly complete film together with class of production at Columbia University. PTS students divide the project into departments and each one takes care of one aspect of preparation and production of the shooting and final shot film.

Assignments are decided initially and upon this depends any further development of project. Therefore there are students that will work more on initial stage of project (screenwriting) and students who will work more on the latter part of it, (ex. postproduction) The team elects a coordinator that works as production manager of the project/team.

The purpose is to experience external assignment, manage production needs and developments and possibly produce finish a short film.

PTS students works in collaboration with Cinema and Digital Media (MFA)/Academy Preparation Program (non-degree) students to accomplish all aspects of production, they choose a writer, director cinematographer and so on?

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

PTS students only! At least six students, developing and completing the assignment.

According to tutor?s instruction/evaluation if the project it is dropped at initial stage no credits will be provided.

Course contents:

The initiative comes from professor Hausman who was teaching a module in December 2015 at FAMU.

It consists of working at the same project between two teams one from Columbia University and one from FAMU.

Class meets every Monday afternoon in accordance with partner class in new York (-6 hours) project is examined, analyzed and then preparation starts.

Decision upon final filming of project will be taken as the project progresses and given time and appropriate management of task(s).

If film is produced will be shown at official APP (or CDM, depending on director?s) screening.

Assessment methods and criteria:

The project is assessed by FAMU International for PTS and results are evaluated on finished level of work on a pass/fail basis, there is an amount of work to be done collegially and a part/assignment handled personally by each student, evaluation depends on both criteria

Depending on final results (completed film shown) participation and pass can be valued 3 credits.

Attendance is for 6/8 students. Participation to joint classes is strongly suggested even if not compulsory, coordinator is responsible for checking the actual participation of colleagues to the workshop/film.
