Participants will need to have a laptop with Processing 3.0 installed and that's all.
The rest we can figure out together since each participant or group of participants will create their own workflow. If participants have a 3D modeling program of any kind that they're familiar and comfortable with they should have it on the computer that they bring, otherwise they can email us at info@transmit.org for recommendations as the workshop date approaches.

When we think of data visualization we usually think of a graph or a 2D interactive element. However, we live in a world of 3D objects and things that have weight, shape, and texture. The way our shoes wear down tells us how we walk, canyons tell us how a river flows, a worn spot in a bed tells us where we sleep. All those objects tell us a story about and we instinctively understand how to read them. In this workshop we're going to look at creating data visualizations using the Processing programming environment to design 3D objects that can be fabricated using a range of techniques including 3D printing, CNC Milling, and laser cutting.

Lecturer bios:
Joshua is a Principal Designer at TEAGUE, focused on building smart objects and spaces, and helping design and build tools for creation and creativity. Prior, he spent three years at frog leading the rapid prototyping practice in Seattle while helping frog's global creative team learn how to make strategic decisions, and design in code and hardware. Over the last 14 years Joshua has designed and built art experiences and objects that range from enterprise-scale websites and museum exhibitions, to fully functional in-car automotive experiences and architectural installations. He enjoys exploring new platforms, constraints, environments, and the challenge of imbuing objects.
