Though still at theoretical and experimental level this discipline of research can become of great importance to any filmmaker (or narrator in general) as it explains the connection between some narrative and/or rhetorical processes and the response of the human brain almost responding automatically to an external and potentially manageable stimulation.

Neurorhetorics is a discipline currently developed in the United States, specially through the work of Jordynn Jack at University of North Carolina, that links particular structures of communication to neural processes of the brain implying that there may be a „biological“ way to build stories designed to provoke emotional response at neural level.
Though in United States it is already a consolidated field of research using the futuristic techniques of neuro imaging to introduce new tools for knowledge in traditional areas such as history or literature. Neurorhetorics is still little known in Europe where there still resist a nasty and consolidated division between science and humanities. However it is just analysing the connections between cognitivism, developments of the neurosciences and rhetoric forms and images we can issue some extremely fascinating questions: what happens in our brain when we formulate a metaphor? what is synesthesia or can we map external stimula in our mind? do we have a picture of the brain activity when we develop a metonymy, is mind reading, or better the way we distinguish reality form its cognitive representation, taking literature as an advanced lab?
