Specific admission requirements:

For the entrance examination, candidates will prepare a dramaturgically balanced recital of 70-75 minutes in length.The recital must include one of the following prominent works of the Romantic piano literature:

F. Chopin:Sonata in B minor, Op. 58

R. Schumann:Sonata in F-sharp minor, Op. 11

R. Schumann:Sonata in G minor, Op. 22

R. Schumann:Fantasy, Op. 17

F. Liszt:Sonata in B minor

J. Brahms:Sonata in F minor, Op. 5

M. P. Mussorgsky:Pictures at an Exhibition

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning:

The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).

Qualification requirements and regulations

Advancement to the continuing Master?s programme is based on an entrance examination.Admission is contingent on completion of the Bachelor?s programme in the relevant field.It is also possible to enter the Master?s programme after gaining life experience. Prerequisites are demonstrated successful artistic practice and successful completion of the entrance examination.The Faculty reserves the option to impose additional supplementary requirements on candidates from other schools for purposes of evaluating the candidate?s level in subjects where there is a difference in curriculum between the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU) and the candidate?s previous school.

Regulations:The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

Field of study characterization

Study and interpretation of the solo piano literature on a very high professional level with deep orientation in compositional styles and with confident and reliable technical ability.Gradual development of concert activity within the scope of available options and involvement in cultural life.Development of interpretive qualities in chamber music with a great tradition in the Czech lands.

Perfect mastery of the main field and its technical and artistic issues.

Confident and deep orientation in the musical legacy of the past and its stylistic periods.

Study of the solo repertoire and the basic repertoire of chamber music with the piano and its mastery at a high professional and concert level.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples:

Graduates of the Master?s programme represent the young generation of performers continuing the tradition of Czech interpretive art and on the great personalities of our music culture.In addition to concert activity in the Czech Republic and abroad, they also work in pedagogical roles at artistic primary schools, conservatories and universities.

Access to further studies:

The doctoral programme in Interpretation and Interpretation Theory.Lifelong learning programmes, master courses, etc.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans.The student is informed of these through the information system.The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination.If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission).It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies.It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z).An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject.In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission.An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods.Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.

Graduation requirements:

The student fulfils the requirements corresponding to the study plan.The student passes the final state examination.Advancement to the Master?s examination is contingent on the realisation of the Master?s graduate concert, the defence of which is part of the state final examination, and the elaboration of a written diploma thesis, which is also part of the defence.

The State Master?s Examination consists of the following parts:

- defence of the Master?s graduate concert;

- defence of the written diploma thesis;

- an oral examination on the Poetics of Interpretive Performance.
