Specific admission requirements:

Knowledge of dance techniques (classical, modern, folk) at the advanced level of dance conservatory graduates, pedagogical talent and interest in the field preferably demonstrated by pedagogical experience, knowledge of music theory, overview of the history of dance and ballet, general cultural knowledge; stage experience is welcomed.

Entrance examination:

1) a written examination in general cultural maturity and the history of dance and ballet;

2) a practical examination in dance techniques (classical, modern, folk).

Candidates who successfully complete these examinations will be invited to the second part of the entrance examination, which consists of:

1) an examination in musical knowledge and skills (for more information, please see the Department of Music Theory and History document ?Model questions in music theory and history for Art of Dance study fields?);

2) an interview on basic knowledge of the system of classical dance technique (and possibly other dance techniques); requires a methodological approach to the analysis of individual elements;

3) an interview on dance pedagogy (preparation and execution of lessons, attitude of the teacher toward students, etc.);

4) a demonstration of the candidate?s own pedagogical skills (three movement sequences of varying tempo and character in classical, modern or folk dance style ? according to the candidate?s choice).

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning:

The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning. The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).

Qualification requirements and regulations

A completed secondary or a completed secondary vocational education; exceptionally it is also possible to admit candidates without a completed secondary, a completed secondary vocational or higher vocational education at a conservatory.

Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

Field of study characterization

The Bachelor?s programme in Dance Pedagogy provides education in the area of dance pedagogy, which includes practical experience with various dance techniques, styles, methods and didactics of dance education with a focus on folk, classical and modern dance, and an overview of the historical development of dance. Emphasis is placed on acquiring the knowledge and skills which form the basic corpus of dance pedagogy, and students also search for their future professional focus (specialisation in a certain type of dance).

Key learning outcomes:

Orientation in pedagogical approaches to modern and traditional dance techniques and other dance disciplines; the ability to work in component pedagogical assignments or tasks as a visitor in dance departments at primary arts schools, in dance troupes and at dance conservatories (Dance Conservatory of the City of Prague, Ivo Váni - Psoty Dance Conservatory); pedagogical work accompanying instruction at a dance department or other dance schools and other institutions; participation in dance workshops organised by the Department of Dance; interpretive activity, in particular in choreographic projects at the Department of Dance, HAMU.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples:

A graduate of the Bachelor?s programme in the field of Dance Pedagogy should have obtained a comprehensive education in the individual dance techniques in their contemporary conception, knowledge and skills in the area of dance pedagogy generally and a basic volume of knowledge in the selected dance technique both theoretically and with respect to pedagogical practice in order to be able to work in a pedagogical role in elementary dance education (primary arts schools, the lower years of dance conservatories). A graduate also has an overview of the history and theory of dance, thanks to which he or she can perceive the selected field in the context of dance generally, as well as from the perspective of other artistic fields and culture.

Access to further studies:

After duly completing the Bachelor?s programme it is possible for the student to continue his or her studies in the Master?s programme.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system. The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations. The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word „Credited“ (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. Examinations are graded on the scale „A, B, C, D, E, F“.

Graduation requirements:

Studies in this programme are duly completed with the state final examination. This examination is held before an examination committee comprised of the faculty?s professors, assistant professors and expert assistants, or of invited experts approved by the faculty?s artistic council. The state final examination and announcement of the results are public.

The student must sit for a state final examination no later than two academic years after fulfilling the study obligations of the relevant study plan. A student who has fulfilled the conditions of the relevant study plan, executed a Bachelor?s pedagogical demonstration, submitted a written work with all the required formalities and obtained the required number of credits may register for the state final examination. The examination includes a defence of the Bachelor?s work and an oral examination on the methodology of the selected specialisation of dance technique. The Dean stipulates the contents of the state final examination for individual fields of study on the basis of the recommendation of the relevant department.

State final examinations are graded on the scale „A, B, C, D, E, F“. The examination committee shall decide the overall assessment for the state final examination by vote in camera.
