Specific admission requirements:

The continuing Master`s programme is intended for graduates of Bachelor`s or Master`s programmes at schools which assume public performance as an integral component of the profession. This includes, for example, graduates in the following fields: theatrical fields (acting, directing, dramaturgy, theatre studies), pedagogy, psychology, law, theology, journalism, etc. The admission criteria are creative aptitude in the area of authorial acting, submission of authorial texts, command of a short prosaic text from memory with which it is possible to work in the examination, at least one folk song to assess voice aptitude, an application letter and a demonstrated track record of academic focus. The entrance examination consists particularly in assessing the aptitudes of personality and talent (discipline of movement, voice, delivery, acting propaedeutics) and an interview (motivation, orientation in culture, art, philosophy, current affairs).

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning:

The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning. The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).

Field of study characterization

The study of acting not in the sense of interpreting an assigned role, but in the authorial sense, i.e. students' education towards a creative personality capable of standing behind their authorial works, to personally present and develop them in a dialogue with the environment into which they enter. Authorship here is thus not understood only as the production of artefacts, but as every original creative activity which occurs in the social space and which in consequence - intentionally or otherwise - transforms this space; it should thus personally warrant for its actions, bear the responsibility. And it should also be in sufficiently good condition for them, because existing in a common space places significant psychosomatic demands on every person. For this reason, the study of acting with a focus on authorial creation and pedagogy is based on acquiring experience in the main dimensions of human expression: education in voice, speech, movement and dialogic conduct. The theoretical subjects are selected so as to provide reflection and a broader horizon to these skills, or rather abilities. The Master's level deepens the skills and knowledge acquired at the Bachelor's level, leads to greater independence on the part of the graduate, to larger personal authorial projects, to the interconnection of the skills and experience acquired from previous studies, and enhances the programme in particular with pedagogy in the field.

Key learning outcomes:

Expert knowledge - the student understands and can explain the authorial aspects of acting in the elementary context of European culture, understands the basic philosophical, anthropological and psychological aspects of authorship, and is able to name the basic principles of pedagogy in the individual psychosomatic disciplines. The student is also able to formulate the methodological problems of an authorial acting work, and can explain the principles of using theatrical approaches in the non-artistic sphere.

Expert skills - the student is able to create a text outline of a 45-minute authorial performance and knows how to structure its stage form, and can apply theatrical principles in practice in the non-artistic sphere. General competencies - the student is capable of interplay with a partner on stage, has deeply absorbed the ethics of authorial creation and demonstrates signs of advanced psychosomatic condition.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples:

Because the goal of the programme is to cultivate a self-confident, creative personality, the graduates - profiles and employment can be - and tend to be - very diverse. Most commonly, graduates apply their skills in so-called assisting and pedagogical professions of variegated specialisations, from créches to universities, often as lecturers in psychosomatic disciplines. They also apply their skills as authors of their own projects of a theatrical, visual, literary or other nature, or work in the media sphere (moderators, script writers, etc.).

Access to further studies:

The doctoral programmes in Theory and Practice of Theatrical Creation and in Authorial Acting and Theory of Authorial Creation, or doctoral programmes in other fields at DAMU, Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, or other universities, in particular those with a humanities emphasis. Lifelong learning programmes, master courses, etc.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.

The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.

The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word „Credited“ (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale „A, B, C, D, E, F“.

Graduation requirements:

The requirements for graduation are completion of all study subjects, submission of the diploma thesis and its defence, a final authorial presentation (independent authorial presentation) and orientation in the theory of the field and the history of theatre, demonstrated before an examination commission.
