The candidate is able to formulate his/her reasons for wanting to study at the Documentary Film Department, expectations from studying at FAMU, and ideas about his/her own creative path. A prerequisite of admission is the demonstration of systematic interest in cinematography and audio-visual culture, knowledge of social problems and the ability to assume his/her own posture towards them. Not only wide general knowledge is expected from the candidate, but also in particular the ability to think independently and to form his/her own point of view.
The candidate for the programme in Documentary Film should also have organisational skill, social intelligence and the ability to react swiftly and distinctively to a developing situation of which he/she is a part. Admissions examinations also test the candidate?s talent for visualising a narrative.

The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).

Required qualifications: A completed secondary or a completed secondary vocational education; exceptionally, it is also possible to admit candidates without a completed secondary, a completed secondary vocational or higher vocational education at a conservatory.
Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

The Documentary Film Department is a place of creative practice in relation to specific material connected to reality in the widest sense. The Documentary Film programme is a path of synthesis of an artistic approach and personal engagement in relation to personal, specialist and social topics. The border between documentary film and acted film is naturally permeable.
- Key learning outcomes:

The graduate of the Bachelor?s programme in Documentary Film must have mastered the craft of filmmaking ? directing and scriptwriting ? and is usually able to work independently with a camera and sound, as well as in the cutting room. He/she is capable of performing independent directing work under professional conditions, and also develops his/her creativity and skills acquired in practical realisations of independent authored projects.

A graduate of the Bachelor?s programme in the Documentary Film Department has acquired the specialist, creative and technical knowledge and skills necessary for assistive as well as independent directing work in the area of film and television. Graduates can apply their skills widely in particular as authors of short and medium-length formats in current affairs television, in all common film and television formats of the documentary genre, as well as in medium-length acted film or television production, and possibly also in lower-level technical and production positions for which they are prepared thanks to the broadly focused components of the study plan in the Documentary Film programme.

- Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.
The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.
The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.
