Specific admission requirements:

The candidate demonstrates talent prerequisites at the level of a Bachelor?s programme graduate through a submitted authored work and topics for a documentary film. An additional prerequisite for admission is that the candidate be well orientated in current developments in the cultural and social sphere. Further, the candidate demonstrates the ability to organise single-mindedly his/her artistic development based on the presented project for the Master?s programme.

Qualification requirements and regulations

Required qualifications: A completed university education in a Bachelor?s programme in Documentary Film or in a related field.

Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

Field of study characterization

The goal of the programme in Documentary Film is to form a creative and engaged personality, a filmmaker capable of audio-visual expression in the spirit of the traditions of Czech and world documentary film, and to further develop and transform them with his/her authorial approach. The graduate has mastered the substantive professional knowledge and skills of the individual fields of filmmaking, which he/she is able to apply in realising his/her consolidating creative vision.

Key learning outcomes:

A graduate of the Master?s programme in the Documentary Film Department has acquired the specialist, creative and technical knowledge and skills necessary for independent directing work in the area of film and television. Graduates can apply their skills widely in particular as authors of medium-length and serial formats in current affairs television, in all common film and television formats of the documentary genre, as well as in medium-length and feature-length acted film or television production, and possibly also in higher-level technical and production positions for which they are prepared thanks to the broadly focused components of the study plan in the Documentary Film programme.

The graduate of the Master?s programme in Documentary Film at FAMU is a comprehensively educated personality with his/her own authorial and civic views, and is able to implement them in an original artistic form.

A graduate of the Master?s programme in the Documentary Film Department is comprehensively equipped for independent directing work in the area of film and television, in particular in the documentary genre but also in the current affairs and acted genres.

Access to further studies:

The doctoral programme in the field of Theory of Film and Multimedia Production.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.

The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.

The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.
