Specific admission requirements:

The basic criterion for admitting the candidate is an assessment of his/her talent prerequisites evaluated on the basis of submitted authored works representing the candidate?s production, and further an evaluation of the candidate?s will to work on developing his/her talent and organisational abilities evaluated on the basis of the presented project for the Master?s programme.

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning:

The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.

The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).

Qualification requirements and regulations

Required qualifications for admission to the Master?s programme: A completed university education in a Bachelor?s programme in Photography or in a related field.

Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

Field of study characterization

The Master?s programme in the field of Photography is focused on the student?s further creative and intellectual development, on deepening his/her knowledge and talent in view of his/her individual focus and abilities. The Master?s programme places emphasis on intensive, deep and concentrated work on one?s own education in close collaboration with pedagogues, and leads students to acquire the ability of reflection in both the creative and theoretical areas.

Key learning outcomes:

The graduate of the programme in Photography is a complex creative personality. Through his/her abilities and knowledge, the graduate is thoroughly familiar with traditional and contemporary methods of production, and is able to contribute creatively to their further development in the areas of art and scholarship. The graduate is prepared for independent, distinctive creative work which also encompasses reflection on production in the area of photography, as well as in the context of the artistic and audio-visual spheres. He/she is able to reflect on the production of audio-visual and artistic works, and to regard them in their theoretical, historic, sociological and philosophical context.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples:

Thanks to the systematic care and attention accorded to his/her talent, the graduate is an artistic personality or expert with a firm scholarly grounding and with the prerequisites for further creative growth. In addition to various possibilities in the area of photography, he/she is also equipped for the areas of publication, curation, work on audio-visual productions, and pedagogical activity. Graduates of the Studio of Photographic Restoration and Archiving are equipped in particular for professional work in the collection fonds of institutions which work with photographs, in museums, galleries, professional restoration workshops, and as expert advisors, curators and pedagogues.

Access to further studies:

The doctoral programme in the field of Theory of Film and Multimedia Production.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading:

Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.

The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.

The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.

Graduation requirements:

The student fulfils the requirements set by the study plan.
