- Field of study characterization
-
The Master?s programme in Sound Design follows on from the Bachelor?s programme in this field, and is focused on the universal preparation of independent creative individuals ? soundmasters and sound directors ? for the full range of sound design applications, i.e. for film, TV, radio, music studios, theatres and other applications of sound. The Master?s programme offers a narrower specialisation in audio-visual design. The student acquires a comprehensive set of professional knowledge and skills, and a wide inspirational basis for his/her own artistic work as a sound designer in film and television.
- Key learning outcomes:
-
A graduate of the Master?s programme has mastered the more advanced approaches to designing the soundtrack of an audio-visual work in practice, has developed and expanded the possibilities of his/her own (individual) creative outputs, and is able to organise and direct at a high level the creative and technical process of realising film sound. The programme?s goal is to develop individual creative abilities through independent, artistically demanding tasks and to deepen theoretical knowledge in the selected specialisations.
On the basis of theoretical considerations, the graduate is able to express his/her positions and proposed solutions for specific creative assignments. The graduate is able to formulate his/her considerations and opinions in a persuasive and consistent form. In the collective creative process of film production, of which the programme graduate is an integral and active component, this skill has a fundamental impact on the shape of the resulting work.
- Occupational profiles of graduates with examples:
-
The Master?s programme offers professional specialisations in audio-visual design and in sound directing of musical recordings. A Master?s programme graduate is capable of holding top positions in practice and can handle top artistic projects. He/she is versatilely prepared to perform the sound craft in the independent and leading positions of soundmastee, supervisor, designer, etc., and thus to contribute effectively to the high artistic and technical quality of the sound component of an audio-visual work. The programme graduate is capable of integrating himself/herself in a qualified manner into team collaboration, in particular with a film or television crew, and has mastered the technologies of sound postproduction at an advanced level. The graduate is able to react flexibly in his/her work to current developments in sound technologies.

- Examination regulations, assessment and grading:
-
Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.
The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.
The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.
