Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The course task is to acquaint students with the typical style elements of an opera work, unity of all components participant in opera performance, conducting methods for individual opera ensemble elements, the plan and procedure of study. Conductor collaboration with the director and artistic designer. Organizing conducting work in opera operations.

Course contents:

Acquaintance with opera interpretation issues such as th music-drama form. Theory instructions for working with an opera ensemble and the activites of the conductor in opera operations.

Recommended or required reading:

Characteristic period elements of opera works. Unity of all elements participation in opera production. Conductor methods with individual elements of an opera ensemble. The study plan and procedure. Conductor collaboration with the director and designer. Conductor organization in opera production.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Simulated analysis of subsequent rehearsals with an orchestra. Preparations for an opera performance. Credit.
