Learning outcomes of the course unit:

This course gradually provides the student with all skills and knowledge needed for playing the alto flute. The course is oriented towards orchestra literature, predominantly alto flute solo parts. Emphasis is place on solo literature with piano or other chamber groups. Considering that student playing skills may vary greatly, individual instruction paths are taken. Also, the view of the student as to why they wish to play the alto flute is decisive for the course method. The alto flute is ostensibly used in symphonic and opera. This course practices the most important solos in orchestra literature.

Course contents:

The Alto flute is part of many music groups. This instrument is extensively used in orchestras, as a solo instrument and other music genres. This course gradually provides students with all the skills and knowledge needed in playing the alto flute. This course focuses on orchestra literature, primarily alto flute solos. Most flutists select the alto flute for its use in orchestras. The alto flute is quite prominent in symphonic aand opera works. Therefore, great space is given to orchestra literature. Even for those not interested in orchestra playing, there is a presentation of individual orchestra parts but also instruction in solo literature, literature with piano accompaniment or other chamber groups is prepared. Considering differences in the students ability in playing the alto flute can be quite diverse, individual paths of instruction are chosen. The reason the students wish to play the alto flute is also decisive for the course methodology.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Evaluation of instrument and orchestra playing, completion of the established repertoire, AKS verification, all concluded with the award of credit.
