Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The Bass Clarinet is extensively used in orchestras and solos and, today, in other music genres. Considering that the difference in students' play can be great, individual instruction paths are chosen. Study literature is distributed according to ability. Etudes and recitals largely come from Clarinet literature. Recitals are oriented towards the more simple compositions intended for that instrument. The perspective of the student and why they wish to play the Bass Clarinet are determinant for the course methodology. Bass Clarinet reed adjustment is instructed. Those reeds are, in their structure, similar to the Clarinet's, but adjustment techniques have their own specific rules.

Mode of study:

Continuing student participation in symphony and opera orchestra auditions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Instrument skills corresponding to the student study year and profile.

Course contents:

The Bass Clarinet is an instrument in many music ensembles. This instrument is markedly used in orchestras, as a solo instrument and, today, in other music genres. This course gradually provides the student with all skills and knowledge needed for playing the Bass Clarinet. Students are divided according to their abilities. They are introduced to technique of how to properly play the Bass Clarinet. Considering the playing may differ greatly among students, individual instruction paths are selected. In the individual approach and acceptance of various skills the path to get quickly achive the ability level is taken for the less proficient. Study literature is assigned according to student ability. Etudes and recitals largely come from clarinet literature. Recitals are oriented towards the easier compositions intended for that instruments. The view of why the student wants to play the instrument is a determining factor for the course method. Not all are interested in the Bass Clarinet solo track. Many wish to play the instrument because of practical reasons of which there are many when auditioning for an orchestra position. Bass Clarinet reed adjustment is instructed. These reeds are, in their structure, similar to Clarinet reeds but the adjustment techniques have their own specific rules.

Evaluation of instrument and orchestral playing. Fulfilling of the established repertoire range. AKS certification. All concluded with credit awarded.
