Learning outcomes of the course unit:

1. Contemporary Czech and world literature for solo trombone.

2. Introductio nto the psychology of solo performance on stage.

3. Study of competition and audition repertoire.

4. Questions of concentration on peformance and study of relaxation techniques.

Mode of study:

On-going participation in symphony and opera orchestra auditions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Instrument skills at the level corresponding to the study year and student profile.

Course contents:

Trombone playing intensively focuses on mental areas in solo and orchestra playing from chamber ensembles to large symphony orchestras. The aim is to reinforce self-confidence and sovereignty in stage performance. We focus on participation in auditions and contests. Resolving issues with maximum concentration and relaxation and thorough introduction to relaxation techniques such as yoga - meditation, contemplation, etc. Selection of study recital literature should conform to appropriate Czech virtuoso literature supplemented by equivalent world literature.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Student performance is assessed in all facets of performance. First of all the composition the student played is examined and individual pitfalls of performance are pointed out. Also assessed is how the student dealt with these problems. Noted, as well, is the playing level of the student in terms of technique, intonation, sound, dynamics and performance.
