Course contents:

This course provides student with all abilities needed to play the trumpet. A path is sought to enable the student to master playing at the highest level in technique, intonation, embouchure and tone quality and performance. All demands placed on the player explained in Trumpet 1 & 2 are, in this course through properly selected etudes, improved. As well attention is given to the tongue as a very important phenomenon of subtle setting of tone or fast staccato. In difficulties, paths to correction are sought (of course, from the start of Trumpet 1). Here we learn what all tongue technique has to offer. Individual types of placement from the most subtle to accented or forced, as well in staccato not only speed but also length of individual staccato note. It is possible to play from detache up to staccatissimo. Not only in etudes is new knowledge practiced but also recital compositions are selected to employ that knowledge in concert activities. Etude selection includes more demanding pieces by C. Perrin, H.L. Clarke. Recital compositions give preference to composers such as J.K.J. Neruda, E. Bozza, G. Enescu.

Recommended or required reading:

C. Perrin 15 mistrovských etud,

H. L. Clarke 24 charakteristických studií

J. K. J. Neruda Concerto in Es,

E. Bozza Rustiques,

G. Enescu Legenda

Assessment methods and criteria:

Student performance is assessed in all aspects. First, the composition played is analysed and individual pitfalls of performance are defined. How the student managed these issues is evaluated. The playing level in the technical, intonation, sound, dynamic and performance aspects are not omitted.
