Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Preparing students in the abilities to analyse construction material (wood), know various modification techniques as well as the preservation and storage of the final product (reeds, double-reeds).

Mode of study:

Exchange of experience in the production and modification of reeds.

Course contents:

This course provides students with practical and method-educational skills which are required in the production and modification of Bassoon double-reeds. Wood structure in relation to tone quality is explained. The construction of reeds with various strengths, sound, lifespans and uses at all levels and all other Bassoon playing attributes is instructed.

Recommended or required reading:

Exchange of experience in the production and modification of reeds.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Reed production corresponding to the playing disposition of the Bassoon player accounding for the sound, color, dynamics and expressive aspects of their performance ideas.
