Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The study aim is to acquire practical education skills through instructing at variou state institutions (ex: conservatories, Arts Elementary schools) or in private studies, which present direct confrontation with real situations, awareness of the role of the instructor, formation of individual instruction style. The course is closely related to the Modern Dance Methods course. As well it serves to acquire basic information regarding the function structure and issues in dance education and contemporary Czech dance community.

Mode of study:

Practicals presenting the independent education practice of the students which have been professionally advised. The theory part is comprised of student participation in discussions, analysis or dance education seminars and workshops organized by other institutions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

The requirement is the completion of Modern Dance Methods 1, 2 and 3, primarily, an openness to learning new skills, development of movement quality and the principles of modern dance, improvisation skills, creativity, interest in theory, effort to learn about current events in modern dance in teaching and choreography in the Czech Republic and abroad. Recommended: participation in dance - education classes and workshops arranged by other professional institutions, a monitoring and comparison of teaching methods of various instructors, continuous gathering of new information through the internet. Independent study is emphasized through e-learning, study materials and recommeded professional writings.

Course contents:

1. Introduction to Dance and Movement Therapy (DMT) principles

2. Introduction to the basic structure of a DMT class

3. Working with „Effort Elements“ - Flow, Weight, Time, Space

4. Working with „Shape Elements“ - awareness of one's movement space (personal space), awareness of changing shape of the body in relation to a space.

5. Working with movement planes and movement tracks.
