Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim of the course is to provide students a detailed knoweldge of classical dance technique, provide an understanding of the principles of creating individual elements and phrases so one may work with them in instruction. Instruction follows dance conservatory curricula.

Mode of study:

This course is linked to Classical Dance Technique 2 and is closely related to Classical Dance Methodology. Students adopt Classical dance technique. In this semester the intermediate level of Dance conservatory instruction is covered. This is the 4th and 5th study years. The aim is to train the instructor not the performers.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Presumed developed knowledge of classical dance technique. The aim is not performer but instructor training. Instruction is linked from semester to semester. The completion of the previous semester is necessary.

Course contents:

The systematic elaboration of new elements of classic dance in the 4th and 5th years of study and simultaneous repetition and practice of elements covered earlier which appear in phrases and combinations for intermediate study. In this semester we focus and elaborate, primarily, work a la barre and au milieu related to methodology.

Development of movement coordination, working with the head, arms and feeling for the shoulders. Development of artistic and stage senses, endurance, musicality, accelerando. Arranging simple combinations with an emphasis on th purity of execution of the phrase elements. Particular emphasis is placed on promenades and pirouettes technique.
