The course aim is the greatest glimpse into a music text. An understanding of a musical weaving from a vertical and horizontal, as well as from a perspective of detail and as a whole. The relationship of music content to the music stylization used. The connecting of a „musicalized“ text with the use of music. In a work for stage, the relationship of the action to the music. Linkages to other types of arts, philosophy.
The course aim is:
1. Broadening student knowledge in harmony, counterpoint, music form, instrumentation and structure through analysis.
2. Acquaintance with a selected work of music from an analytical perspective.
3. Learning new era analysis procedures appropriate for learning works of the 20th and 21st centuries.
- Mode of study:

Analyses of composition score reading (form, harmony, counterpoint, structure, instrumentation and other characteristic elements in a composition). Subsequent listening to composition recordings with a score. Discussion of the presented analysis.
- Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Required are a knowledge of form, harmony and counterpoint at the conservatory level.

At the beginning of the course the instructor prepares a number of example analyses to explain in detail the issues of the course.
In the second half of the semester students work on the analysis of one composition from the 20th and 21st centuries assigned with a view to their individual preferences and dispositions. At least once in the semester students present the final form of their complete analysis in class.

- Assessment methods and criteria:

Credit is awarded based on: activity in the course, development and presentation of the semester's written work which is presented in the first semester in class. In the second semester along with a presentation in class an analysis is submitted in written form.
In the second semester, as well, students sit an exam which confirms the knowledge acquired during the course; in particular analyses, mastery of analysis methods. Its parts are submitted and defended in writing and graphically for the second semester.
The overall evaluation is comprised of 60% for activity in the course and 40% for the written course work.
