The workshop is particularly appropriate for the students of instrumental departments.
- Course contents:
-
The workshop focuses on „free“, i.e. non-idiomatic improvisation (to differ from impro in historical styles, on given themes or jazz improvisation). The aim is to search for one´s own music and musical communication (to differ from training a skill)
- re-evaluate one´s approach to music, to one´s instrument as well as the other players
- to react to the others and to learn to make collective decisions
- to accept responsibility for one´s expression, to reach the roots of musicality
- to create, and together with the others to study own exercises, to independently modify given exercises
- to explore the possibilities provided by one´s instrument
„Sharing“: to express and share own feelings from playing, to formulate musical concepts.
The discussions help in refining one´s views of aesthetics and the aesthetics of musical expression.

Before the course´s start, it is recommended to get familiar with the main personalities in the contemporary improvisation scene, such as Ruth Barberán, Burkhard Beins, Angharad Davis, Rhodri Davis, Axel Dörner, Isabelle Duthoit, Kai Fagaschinski, Klaus Filip, Will Guthrie, Franz Hautzinger, Robin Hayward, Annette Krebs, Seijiro Murayama, Andrea Neumann, Ignaz Schick, Taku Sugimoto, Michael Thieke, Taku Unami, Sabine Vogel, Christopher Williams.
