Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Continuation of the Music Theory Text Analysis 2 course. Students gradually become acquainted with a representative collection of literature gradually covering all basic areas and aspects of musicology systems and history. Medial length and complex texts are studied. Focus is on writings about music of older periods and basic work of classical music theory writings.

Mode of study:

Classes with individual student performances and subsequent discussion.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Completion of Music Theory Text Analysis 2. No other requirements.

Course contents:

A required course for Music Theory studies. Instruction is 1 hour per week in the summer semester of the 2nd year of Bachelor's study. Linking of Music Theory, History and Classification. Study focuse on writings about older music style periods (Renaissance, Baroque, Classic) and in part also on non-European music culture. Simultaneously, this semester continues readings and commentary of a basic list of music theory writings. The semester paper should include a critical-assessment character with an increased part of one's distinctive approach to the material.
