Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Lecture on higher music theor issues. Basic topics: Introduction to Music Theory, Music Theory Classification and Analysis, Applied Music Theory, Research in Music Theory Classification and Analysis. The aim is to prepare Music theory professionals with perspectives for application in Musicology and Education.

Mode of study:

Contact instruction. Lectures in advanced music theory issues, text comparisons analysing selected examples of music structure.

Course contents:

Syllabus:

Musical time

- Time proportions of music

- Physical and anthropological requirement for the perception of musical time.

- Physical time and music structure

- Time divisions at hierarchical levels of micro- and macro-structure.

Music Kinetics

- Concept of rhythm

- Concept of meter

- Concept of tempo

- Individualized sequence of rhythmic impulses

- Hierarchical level of kinetic events in a music structure

- Complex relationships in the organization of the kinetic element of music

- Rhythmic polyphony (polyrhythm, polymetrics)

- Significant works in the field of kinetics.
