Systematic reflection on basic problems and questions connected with the emergence and development of dramatic art, analysis of concrete examples from contemporary stage practice.

The course ends with a text on knowledge learned, taking into account tasks completed dealing with at least one topic in the form of a coherent essay (ca. 3 to 5 standard pages), and reflection on one's own practical activity on stage.
- Course contents:

This course combines lectures and classes developingthe knowledge and skills acquired in the bachelor's study of theatre and drama theory at a new level in which the interest of the student is focused on general issues and on the other hand the issue of individual subjects (directing theory, dramaturgy theory, acting theory).
The curriculum is forms topics for the master's exam in the history and theory of individual studies.
Problems for the Master's exam for Drama theatre directing (Part 1):
1. From Diderot to today: rise and development of European dramaturgy (in a wider sense of „thought about theatre“) with consideration of the rise and development of modern directing
2. Rise and development of Czech dramaturgy considering the rise and development of Czech modern directing (Kvapil, Hilar, E. F. Burian, Grossman and others; where does the dramaturgist end and the director begin.
3. Rise and changes in modern European directing in relation to the development of dramaturgy (intellectual directors, director arrangers, and actor directors; two significant concepts of acting directing.
4. Rise and change in modern Czech in relation to dramaturgy and considering the European context.
5. Drama and theatre (stage) space: rise, typs and changes of modern age stage arts and the development of European set-design.
6. Rise and changes of Czech modern stage arts and development of Czech set-design.
7. Drama and the dramatic considering the issues of the relationship of aesthetic categories and concepts of historical poetry (dramatics of Dostoyevsky novels and the lyricism of the theatre of E. F. Burian).
8. Time-space of drama and time-space of a stage piece with respect to the particulars of the space-time of various genres and styles.
Problems for the Master's exam in Drama theatre dramaturgy (Part 1):
1. Rise and development of European dramaturgy (in a wider sense of theatre) considering it's „elements“ (including theory-criticism) and historical similarities.
2. Rise and development of Czech dramaturgy considering the European context.
3. Rise and changes of modern European directing in relation to the development of dramaturgy (intellectual directors, director arrangers, and actor directors; two significant concepts of acting directing.
4. Rise and change in modern Czech in relation to dramaturgy and considering the European context.
5. Theatre and literature including issues ofworks of diverse literary types and their dramatization or staging.
6. Drama and the dramatic considering the issues of the relationship of aesthetic categories and concepts of historical poetry (dramatics of Dostoyevsky novels and the lyricism of the theatre of E. F. Burian).
